Description
The Diversify Your Bookshelf collection includes:
- Afrofuturism: Curator Justina Cruickshank guides the reader through the challenging definition of Afrofuturism and what it might mean for black people depending on where in the world they are based. 12 stories are shared by writers from Malawi, Botswana, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda and Kenya. We travel through each story experiencing magical realism, fantasy and sci-fi in a collection that asks us to rethink the future and reconsider our conceptions of Africa.
- California Dreaming: Its title inspired by the 1960s counter-culture movement, California Dreaming showcases just a few of many diverse and immersive tales of immigration as experienced by diaspora communities from around the world. Bringing together 10 women including award winners, novelists and academics, this collection of personal essays and short stories asks that, no matter where we are from, we keep dreaming of a world where acceptance is a natural and easy conclusion of forming identity and belonging.
- Section 28: Whilst the UK has come far in terms of LGBTIQ+ rights, there is still much work to be done. Likewise, around the world, people from LGBTIQ+ communities face horrific atrocities, including torture and death, often carried out by their own governments. In Section 28, we bring together works that examine the state of LGBTIQ+ rights and treatment around the globe including the UK, USA, predominantly Muslim countries, South East Asia and Africa. We hope that by sharing these stories, we can bring awareness to the plight of millions of people in the LGBTIQ+ community, persecuted for being who they are. This item ships within 3-5 working days.
